Howard Loo

Howard Namanu’ulaokalani Loo, 80, of Waimea, died April 19, 2021, at his residence. Born in Waipio Valley, he was a retired heavy equipment operator for the County of Hawaii Department of Public Works, a former Bishop of the Honoka’a Ward and a member of the Waimea 2nd Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Friends may call at 10 a.m. May 1 at Waimea Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for a drive-through visitation.

He is survived by wife, Adele Loo of Waimea; son, Roland (Virginia) Loo of Thousand Oaks, California; daughters, Rena (Keoni) Lindo of American Fork, Utah, and Rona (Jonathan) Marquez of Honokaa; brothers, Kelly (Norma) Loo and Ainslie (Anita) Loo of Kukuihaele, and Chuck (Geraldine) Loo of Honokaa; sisters, Clara (Jeremiah) Alip of Sandy, Utah, and Violet Loo and Barbara Wright, both of Waimea; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Karl Krieg

Karl Krieg, 97, of Kailua-Kona, died on April 13, 2021, at his residence. Born Aug. 14, 1923, in Zurich Switzerland, he was a retired electric engineer for Hawaiian Electric Co. Inc. in Honolulu, a Korean War veteran, and member of the American Legion Kona Post 20, the Korean War Veterans Association Chapter 279, Institute Electrical and Electronics Engineers, and The Engineer and Architects Association of Hawaii.

Friends may call for a celebration of life Paina at 11 a.m. May 1 at the Karl Krieg family residence. Call the Kona Lua Office at (808) 329-1318 for directions. Inurnment with military honors will be held 9 a.m. May 4 at West Hawaii Veterans Cemetery. Condolences to the family may be sent to Alex Krieg, PO Box 9019, Kailua-Kona, HI 96745.

He is survived by sons, Alex (Debbie) Krieg and Eric Krieg, both of Kailua-Kona; sister, Carmen Krieg of Zurich, Switzerland; hanai daughter, Taina Laurila of Kailua-Kona; and two grandchildren.

Else De Mello

Else Mary De Mello, 93, of Captain Cook, died April 2, 2021 at Florie’s Care Home. Born June 17, 1927, in Seattle, she was a retired distribution coordinator for Sears and Roebuck and member and volunteer of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.

Services held.

She is survived by sons, James De Mello, Michael De Mello and Adrian (Larond) De Mello, all of Hilo, and John (Roberta) De Mello Jr. of Captain Cook; daughter, Ramah Peery of Hawaii; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
